“So we’re going where?” He asks. That’s not the first obnoxious question of the day.
“To work,” I respond. I drop my bag onto my work desk and he struggles to get out of my bag’s pocket, and when he successfully does, he surveys the room.
“Work’s empty.”
“It’s Labor Day.” I tell him.
“So no one’s here?”
“Yes.”
“Because it’s Labor Day.”
“Yes.”
“Then why are we here?”
I roll my eyes.
“What am I gonna do with you?”
He looks around further. “Well, since it’s Labor Day, I can take the labor off of you and you can take the day off.”
I stare at him. Hard.
“I have a quota to fill, minute man.” I tell him. “If that doesn’t get done, imma kill you.”
He stares back at me. “If I don’t get it done– including all the others you could randomly think of for me to do for today — THEN imma kill myself.”
So, I let him work for tonight.
I also asked him to get me some McD’s coffee since we arrived at work about 30 minutes early.
And I also asked him to get some money for the day, too.
After work, I caught him looking outside the windows.

“Beautiful, ain’t it?” I asked.
He nodded. “I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of it.”
“Depends on which view you’re looking at it from.” I tell him.
He looks at me like he knew what I meant.
Oh, and we also let him drive us home.

We didn’t get caught by the police, thank goodness. We’re yet to process his license.
