The numbing of sensitivty.

So it was one of those days when it simply strikes you in the face: it was =
in the middle of a coaching session, with tamed raging feelings beside hims=
elf as A, an agent who recently joined a certain program-based incentive ga=
me, narrowed his eyes in obvious attempt to hold his own contempt in front =
of me, his jaw clearly clenching and yet placing in a small smile while sof=
tly muttering, “no, it’s already okay.”

Clearly, I told him, with your eyes going into deathly slits, the issue’s n=
ot over.

He tries to go for a small chuckle but almost fails, and I let the topic sl=
ide into a new one. It won’t be over, I know, not until he simply lets it g=
o. And he won’t. Not at this point.

The truth is, it’s a simple structure of nurtured feelings versus flat inst=
itutionalized morality: that fair should be fair. He feels they were cheate=
d out of the game, and naturally, they’d argue their side. What I didn’t pr=
epare myself for is the staunch belief that he claims HE is in the right–n=
o amount of explaining could get through him until everyone concedes he’s r=
ight.

And this–this very idea of not giving up–has been on a rather heated deba=
te within me for months. A few years back, someone has chided me for jumpin=
g into every topic there is. I, JC P., was tagged to be defensive. Defensiv=
e, ladies and gentlemen. I was 19 then, you try calling me defensive.

I told my accuser that, well, YOU are being lax. You simply don’t care. I c=
an’t adapt that attitude. You can’t just let things slide when they need to=
be heard.
be heard.

3 years, 3 jobs, 2 positions, dozens of daily responsibilities, hundreds of=
deliverables, thousands of concerns, millions of reused, abused, and tough=
deliverables, thousands of concerns, millions of reused, abused, and tough=
ened emotions, expressions, and experiences afterwards, I realize one thing=
:

People, by nature, do not simply desensitize themselves to circumstances. W=
hen people claim you’re plain insensitive to things, chances are, they’re s=
imply small things to let go, because either there’s a bigger picture, or y=
ou’ve come to terms with yourself that you’re in the point that you simply =
don’t care: because truthfully, apart from the idea that there are other th=
ings which matter more, there are simply things you would realize, they’re =
mundane.

Of course, we have different levels of needs and ideas of which matter more=
When you’re in a certain level of experience where simple things matter t=
When you’re in a certain level of experience where simple things matter t=
o you, it’s not something one should contest to. It’s just…your current e=
xposure level. That’s just what it is.

So what about the people who don’t care? Do they really not care because th=
ey’re now on a certain level? Does that make them experience snobs?

No. They simply have been there, and understand…that it’s wiser to let th=
ings go and shut up.

According to one, it’s called maturity. I call it, aging wisely. Hah.
