Music: Sleep Don’t Weep - Damien Rice

Somehow, they’re making killing us subtle. In just a week, we’ve had 3 shift changes, and by next week, we’re pretty much still unsure of what our schedules and day-offs would be.
So parang, Boss, kumuha ka na lang ng ballpen. Lagyan mo ng takip, ha. Tapos isaksak mo ng sobra sa dibdib ko.
It’s just a good thing our sup is pretty sympathetic. Kinakaawaan na rin naman namin siya, eh, so just by looking at him burning 20 hours or so in the office and WITHOUT OT PAY, it kinda makes you feel a little better that at least everyone’s burning time and no one’s being too much of a hedonist except for the ceo.
Argh. Talk about an effing imposed command to lose sleep at the snap of their fingers. Yes, it’s that redundant. Look, I honestly don’t mind, but at this point, I NEED AN O.T. Do you hear me, you barren four walls?! I NEED MONEY! GIVE ME MONEY FOR MY O2 XDA MINI S!!!!
There. I said it out loud. Ladies and gentlemen, the mundane has spoken. My current obsession is now an O2 xda mini s. Yes, I effing want one. Actually, this has already been narrowed down to a list that has been placed under better scrutiny and much consideration:
1) an HP or Toshiba laptop because of our still busted computer
2) an N95
3) an n73
4) a Zune player5)
a Creative Zen M player6) an iPod Video
Let me explain further:
1) The HP or Toshiba laptop has been up for consideration mostly because I was trying to come up with a smart idea of buying a low-end lappie for about 9k and refurbish them to my heart’s extent. I’m not sure if this is just me but recently there has been an influx of Japan made laptops currently being sold at dirt-cheap prices, like let’s say a Centrino with a 700MHz processor, 128mb RAM, and 10GB hdd–but, of course, you can upgrade it to a 1GHz processor, 1GB RAM, and 120 GB HDD.
However, Erwin Jori has set me straight by saying that, unlike desktops, laptops are normally upgradable, yes–but take note that some specs are not, as they come with the motherboard. So the 8mb video card and the 700MHz processor MAY be stuck, and no matter how huge your RAM and HDD is, it’ll be virtually useless if you can’t use it to your geeky side’s content.
2) The N95 was an eye candy initially for Ger but as the bulk and the inconsiderate price are too hot to handle, it has remained in its eye-candy state. Actually, THAT eye candy state has been replaced by the Nokia 6110 Navigator, except it hasn’t reached our shores yet. Come to think of it, it hasn’t reached ANY of the shores yet. This is still in the drawing board. Or slated release is of this year, except we don’t know WHEN this year. But of course, the aesthetics and programs beat the N95 in most aspects especially with the GPS navigator program, as they’re aiming the 6110 to be the top navigator what with its titanium casing made to fit your car dashboard.
But come to think of it, since I rarely get lost in Makati and my dad is still not allowing me to use his car, what’s the use?
3) The N73 has been the immediate practical replacement to all our phone whims. There has been a lot, really. There’s the N80 and its soap bar illusion but wifi capabilities. There’s the 5700 with its music capabilities. There’s the N95 and its Carl Zeiss. So what’s the best way to reconcile all of them? Yup, the N73. Masa, but still distinctly business and pleasure. It doesn’t have wifi, but at least it’s a music phone with nice speakers, plus a Carl Zeiss optics boasting of 3.2 MP. Which, come to think of it, isn’t that bad, since it’s also very sleek and easy to throw around. I mean, lug around. This is so far working best for Ger, and I’m still taking this into consideration.
4) The battle of the best specs has ended with the question of restoration: what happens when I need to change the battery? The Zune almost ruled with its great aesthetics and changeable background picture, plus the radio and the recorder. And of course, the perfect anti-iPod gadget. But, since we’re still in a screw-you Bill Gates mode, I’ve taken in to liking Creative Zen Vision M, which has so far the most outstanding features: 4 hours of battery time for video, VERY clear video capabilities, supports avi, mpeg, divx and other videos which cuts the slack in converting, plus the radio, the recorder, and…dig this–can adapt a usb functionality if you have a camera and you need to transfer pictures. Although only supported in the 60gb mode, but hey, this is not bad at all. Although Cowon still rules in terms of best functionality and sleek design, but hey, this is a pmp, and that practically over-rules the competition. But what happened to the battery? Zune, Cowon and Zen don’t have much battery replacements readily available, so chances are you have to buy them legit and have them sent over to the centers if you need to have the batt changed. Which boils it down to the consideration of…
*drum roll*
…the iPod Video.
*wenk wenk wenk weeeeenk…*
AT LEAST Poddies are so masa recently that there are cheap alternatives in terms of centers and battery replacements. Jesus, just go to your friendly neighborhood snob store CDR King and you’d get a batt replacement for only P500. But, of course, we still have the flaws:
A) The ipod video is useless in terms of video capabilities. Why the fuck would you watch a video which should consume your battery for the whole 2 hours, and run dead on you. IF you like hitching your pod to the tv to be able to watch while your pod is charging, yeah, why not. But considering the resolution and the quality, it’s like looking at a pixelated 3d image. Titigan mo mabuti, baka may lumabas na 3D.
B) Most Symbians have the capability of running a video as well. So why not utilize that, and save on the baggage?
C) Do I really need a colored screen? Because I don’t really like looking at pictures while doing an emo trip. Vanity is not for the musically-inclined. Or at least not while you’re listening to the pod. Because in the first place, would you really need to do that while on the bus? Or while taking a jog? Or, for all the other possibilities, like making love with Dido’s song on eternal repeat–WOULD YOU REALLY BE LOOKING AT PICTURES?!
So what I’ll just be doing is try to refurbish Danielle in hopes she doesn’t die on me, have about 10 or so hours more, and surf on wifi with my xda.
Yeah. Doesn’t that make you feel so corporate? Now I just need to overtake that darm PM’s position.

I heard that somewhere - but it was said like this “Would you watch a video on the pod while driving? Or while taking a brisk walk? While riding a jeep? Or while standing in a bus?” Sigh. The ipod video is good for those who likes to wait around in one corner for God-knows-what. Because really, it’s like - would you walk around carrying a tv on or something that you’re watching when you’re on your way to the terminal? And given that this is the Philippine shores - be scared for your life over your expensive gadget.

Exactly.
Yeah, I got that from you. But you gotta admit the last option was a specially nice touch, though. *wink, wink*
